Free Lao Literacy, Khaen & Traditional Dance Classes
|
The Lao-American Advancement Center was established in 2001 to encourage and promote knowledge of our culture, development of our mutual relationship as Lao-Americans, and to aid in solving the problems that many Lao-American students are faced with, particularly in relation to education. Furthermore, to develop an awareness of the full meaning of the phrase “responsible for our community’s future” We offer weekly Lao literacy, Lao traditional dance and Khaen lessons. In addition to these important classes, our students also have been involved in enjoyable activities such as potluck, Pizza days, and yearly field trip or picnic. In 2005 the students raised over $1,000 from selling candies. Fresno has about ten thousand Lao people, but the representation of the Lao culture in many cultural events has been very limited.
